An STGC Giant Passes On

Another of the old time STGC greats has passed on. Winston ‘Dynamite’ Lyn, Class of 1957 passed on, after a brief illness, on April 9, 2018. He was 78 years old.

A center forward, he played from 1957 to 1959 for the school then with the St. George’s College Old Boys Division I Team and then for the STGC Masters Team well into 2005. He actually never gave up the game and up to a few months ago was still playing albeit at a slower pace.

He played with other greats like Trevor Appelton, Peter Chevannes, Freddie Campbell, Michael King and Anthony Hill when STGC reigned supreme as the high school football giant.

A favorite of Coach Arthur McKenzie, he was small but made up for this with pace, reliability and nimbleness. He was fiercely competitive on the field but a very amiable person off the field.

He was a businessman and a farmer.

He leaves behind a daughter Annette and close friend Shoshana. Thanksgiving Service for Winston will be on Tuesday, 17 April, 2018 at the Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Kingston Jamaica at 10:30 am.

We pray for his family. May he rest-in-peace with the Lord.

  • A school friend who gave us thrills at Manning matches at Sanina Park. A gentleman at all times. 🙏
