Six members of the successful StG.C basketball team made the Jamaica youth squad on a tour of Canada in Dec 2004. They were Cleon Morrison, Dane Massey, Shane Williams, Kareen Thomas, St. Aublyn Kidd and Michael Rogers. St.GC. coach Clifford Brown was also appointed coach of the Jamaica under 15 squad, which contained five St.GC. players.
The Jamaica squad engaged various high schools and club teams in a series of friendly matches. The U17 team with St.G.C. netballer Michael Rogers played six matches and won four. The under 15 team played five matches, winning three, with victories against Oakwood Collegiate and Brampton.
This is all part of a development programme for the young Jamaican players, many of whom, including Georgian Michael Rogers, have received scholarships to attend North American universities.
The Ontario old boys were out in support at many of the games and assisted in providing transport and entertainment for the visiting Georgians. Coach Clifford Brown and players were entertained at the home of President Robbie Vernon, who presented them with complimentary copies of the Toronto Good & True June 2004 issue. They were surprised and delighted to see their team featuring in this overseas paper.
Ray Chang hosted a special Christmas party at his home for the executives and their spouses and our sponsored St. Georges youth soccer club, which had come off a very successful season. Coach Brown and the touring St.GC basketball team players were special guests at this event.
Kudos to Neil Dalhouse, Michael Buski Charley, Shaun Wilson, Chris Chin, John Flynn and new member Richard Saunders, who were towers of support during the tour. Good things are happening at St.GC; look out for these names in basketball circles!
