Remembering Egerton Chang

Egerton Chang, businessman, Gleaner Columnist and longtime STGC supporter died on Tuesday, January 2, 2018; he was 66.

His family is credited with the 1930’s establishment in Jamaica of the first supermarket, ‘Chang’s Emporium’ near the Half-Way Tree square.

He studied at the University of the West Indies and McGill University. He was a Canadian Commonwealth Scholar. He also taught physics and math at his alma mater in the mid-1970.

In 2013, he was recognized for his work as a teacher at St. George’s College; at the Grand Reunion 2013. His family has been a regular benefactor to STGC. In latter years, he and his brother Victor had contributed much to the school.

He died at hospital on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 after he was found unconscious at home.

Thanksgiving Service for Egerton Chang will be held at the St’s. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday January 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
