STGC to face KC in the 2017 Lacrosse Taino Cup Finals…

It was a satisfying come from behind win by the Georgians against Jamaica College. The game ended 5-3 after the Georgians were down 0-3 at one time.

St. George’s College has the opportunity to defend their Taino Cup Championship as they showed good form in reaching the Final.

In the preliminary round, they faced Jamaica College who had clear intent of upsetting the Light Blues. With bigger and stronger players, the Dark Blue tactic was to try to bulldoze their way in attack. This worked initially as the Georgians started with a young and inexperienced team. JC scored early and at one time were 3-0 up. However with Captain Deneilson Neil steadying the ship, STGC responded with two goals to go into the half time break down 2-3.

In the second half, we brought on the more experienced players and in quick time the score was 5-3 in favor of the Georgians. JC was simply outplayed by a more tactically sound team.

In the second round, we played Calabar who had stronger and bigger players. The Green and Black boys opted for a very physical game, slapping our players with their sticks at every opportunity. The Georgians though kept their cool and responded with an aggressive attacking game. Again they played a technically superior game and easily outplayed and beat the Boys from Red Hills Road 5-2.

Kingston College in the next group, played well to beat Campion and Excelsior to also reach the Final to be played next Friday at Wolmer’s Girl at 4:00 pm.

So, it will be a North Street affair.

Come out and support the Light Blues next Friday!!!!
